SENSORS TEAM

The primary focus of the sensor team is to prepare and package the salinity, temperature, compass, accelerometer, and RGB sensors for use in the Downwell Remote Operated Platform (DROP) module. The salinity sensor is built entirely in-house and utilizes a four point probe design created with the ZOG method—a way of making printed circuit boards using 3D printers and liquid metal. The latter sensors are sourced from commercial vendors and waterproofed using custom 3D printed casings and polycaprolactone plastic (PCL). The sensors modules will be lowered into wells and their data analyzed to determine temperature, water flow direction, and salinity of the water as well as identify bio-contaminants which may be present. This information will allow for remote monitoring of water quality and determine when abnormalities in the water occur in which further analysis might be necessary in a laboratory environment.

The Sensors Team consists of team lead Brianne Tengan, and members Coleson Costales, Kayla Kwock, Cyrus Noveloso, Logan Oyama, Nicholas Whitcomb, and Charles Wolstein.
