Mark is a sophomore in the electrical engineering program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is originally from Hilo and transferred from the University of Hawaii at Hilo this past summer. Mark is also a veteran, having served in the Hawaii Army National Guard. During his time in the Army, he completed one year in theater during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. After completing his obligations to the Army, he began working as an Instrumentation Technician for the Joint Astronomy Centre. In which he performed his duties at two observatories, the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope and the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope located on Mauna Kea. This is where he was exposed to the various disciplines of engineering, and ultimately credits his supervisors for the motivation to pursue a degree in engineering.
